Wash Me (Poem by Santosh Kumar)

Wash Me

Wash me thoroughly from my guilt and iniquity,
O Lord! For I have transgressed all laws of humankind,
and cleanse me, wholly pure from my impurity.

Hear, O Lord! My plea; listen to my infirmity.
I call on you, you will answer my prayer, misaligned,
wash me thoroughly from my guilt and iniquity.

You set them free, when they call you, without penalty.
Why not me? Oh God! Cast me not away from your mind,
and cleanse me, wholly pure from my impurity.

Just one, only willful sin, proved ‘bout my disloyalty.
Uphold me with a willing spirit, don’t be unkind,
wash me thoroughly from my guilt and iniquity.

Tried I, to find you, with every possibility.
Behold my affliction; forgive me, for I was blind,
and cleanse me, wholly pure from my impurity.

Why are you so far from saving me, my sovereignty?
My God! My God! Why have you forsaken me? Be kind.
Wash me thoroughly from my guilt and iniquity,
and cleanse me, wholly pure from my impurity.
